What is Color Temperature (Kelvin)?

Color temperature is a concept in the lighting literature that describes the color of the light emitted by the light source. Sometimes, color temperature is also referred to as the color of light. Color temperature is measured in the international unit Kelvin. Kelvin is abbreviated as K. Color temperature is one of the focal points in the lighting industry, advertising, photography and publishing.

Color Temperature (Kelvin) Values

The color emitted by the light source is conceptualized as the color temperature. The atmosphere of the environment, the appearance of the products are directly proportional to the quality of the illumination light. Kelvin values in lighting solutions are between 1000 and 6500. Products with color temperature in these value ranges are preferred in production and working areas. Basically the color temperature; It is divided into warm light, natural light and cold light.

What is Warm Light?

The color ratio of 2700K – 3500 Kelvin is called warm light. Warm light has soft light tones. It helps to relieve the tiredness of the day by giving a feeling of calmness. Warm white tones are preferred especially for lighting the houses.

What is Natural Light?

Natural light corresponds to sunlight and color temperature close to sunlight. Sunlight or natural light has a color temperature of 3500K – 4500K. It is beneficial in terms of refreshment and health that the spaces receive daylight during the day.

What is Cold Light?

Cold light refers to the color temperature in the 4500K – 6500K range. Cold light tones are preferred in work environments with visual needs. The 4500K – 6500 Kelvin range makes it easy to achieve the focal point, increasing study and learning efficiency.

Color Temperature (Kelvin) Selection in Living Spaces

In the production of lightings, different color temperatures are preferred in accordance with each place and area. The color temperature is designed in line with the atmosphere of the space. The color temperature ratio, which is arranged in accordance with the need and purpose of use, facilitates the function of the space. For example, cool colors in lighting increase attention and support work and learning. Warm colors, on the other hand, have soothing and relaxing effects. For this reason, the color temperatures of the products should be taken into account when choosing LEDs for the home or workplace. Commonly, the choice of color temperature in living spaces is as follows:

Warm White Living Room
Bedroom
Restaurant
Kids Room
Hotel Room
Bedroom
Cool WhiteOffice
Library
Educational Institutions
Laboratory
Examination Room
Jewelry Stores

Frequently Asked Questions

Light color ratios are the color temperature emitted by light sources. There are light color ratios in different Kelvin ranges in the lighting industry. Light color ratios have an important role in the production of luminaires. Color temperature tones used in lighting devices are divided into warm white, natural white and cool white.

Color rendering refers to the effect of a light source to reflect light on objects. Light sources make colors look more natural and vibrant. Therefore, color rendering is important for the right product or area of use.
